On the occasion, Mr. Joyce delivered a letter from the Executive Director of the WFP regarding the newly appointed Country Director of the WFP to Ethiopia. During the discussion, Mrs. Hirut described the close collaboration and enduring partnership between Ethiopia and WFP as an exemplary. Ethiopia, she said, stated is striving to eradicate poverty and achieve food security.
While expressing commitment to the vision of WFP to achieve Zero Hunger Goal, Mrs. Hirut also mentioned that the country program of WFP for Ethiopia is focusing on Rehabilitation of rural lands, forestation and development of infrastructure, improving education through school feeding, urban slum physical infrastructure improvement and support to vulnerable women and children, Pilot development initiatives in the pastoral areas, and Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) as well as Gender mainstreaming are part of the programs.
Ms. Joyce the Country Director of WFP, on her part expressed appreciation for the positive cooperation between the Government of Ethiopia and the WFP. She also highlighted the positive results achieved so far in reducing poverty and eliminating hunger.
